Twisted Terminology & a directional theme

Some interesting insight into the term “Welfare Queen”

And if 2 wrongs don’t make a right, what do 2 satires make? Here’s a funny take on Stephen Colbert’s Presidential bid…

Romney released his tax returns today…here’s a take incorporating some Twitterverse commentary…

Big news day…Obama’s State of the Union is tonight, and the Oscar nominees were announced today too!

And I heard this story on sportstalk radio last night on the way home - it looks like confusion on the sidelines and/or scoreboard may have had a little bit to do with the field goal that the Ravens missed Sunday, which cost them a shot at overtime (and of course potentially, The Super Bowl). I thought that 3rd down play call was odd at the time…apparently they thought it was 2nd down, oof. That was The Patriots’ first win of the year over a team that had a winning record in the regular season! And they only won because of a shanked 32-yard field goal…can you tell I’m still mad over Spygate? I was in Missouri and rooting for the St. Louis Rams at the time, you understand…

Workday Wrap Up 1/24/12 (North/South/East/West theme)

Sad news day and we/us/our songs

19 January 2012 | By jeff-wcnr in Uncategorized | No Comments Yet

So checking cnn.com upon arriving at work today, here are the main stories I see…

Rick Perry’s out of the Republican presidential nomination race, but perhaps more surprising than that news was his endorsement of Gingrinch, esp. just a couple days away from the South Carolina primary. Meawhile, The Colbert Nation continues to keep things interesting…wonder what they have in store after South Carolina votes?
Also wonder if Perry wants to reconsider his endorsement choice after another Gingrich ex-wife story is revealed…did someone say “sanctity of marriage?”

Oh yeah, and it turns out Santorum won Iowa after all! I know it’s a different kind of system when it comes to a caucus, but if we can’t keep these primaries straight, you’ve got to wonder about close general elections (the 2000 & 2004 races for President, anyone?)…

And this story of cocoa farming in the Ivory Coast…how much chocolate is actually made by child slavery?

Then there’s the terribly sad news of the passing of fresstyle skier Sarah Burke today…

To leave this post on a positive note, we hear a lot about the 99% vs. the 1%, but what if the magic number is 10%? Sure sounds like this would help fix much of what ails the American economy right now. And from a UVA professor, no less!

And there’s a new Bruce Springsteen song in the world today, so that’s good news! And it starts the Workday Wrap Up tonight as our New Song of the Day…

Workday Wrap Up 1/19/12 (We/Our/Us theme)

We Take Care Of Our Own – Bruce Springsteen
Our House – Crosby Stills Nash & Young
